Clinging to a limestone cliff above the Alzou canyon, the medieval sanctuary of Rocamadour has drawn pilgrims for more than eight centuries to the Chapel of Our Lady and its venerated Black Madonna.

Kings and saints climbed its Great Stairway, traditionally on their knees, and the shrine became a stopping place on the way to Santiago.
