For more than a thousand years pilgrims have walked the Camino to venerate the tomb of St James the Greater, beneath the high altar of Santiago Cathedral. Behind the Baroque Obradoiro façade stands the Romanesque Portico of Glory.

2027 is a Jacobean Holy Year, because the Feast of St James on 25 July falls on a Sunday. The Holy Door is opened, and pilgrims who visit the cathedral may gain a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.
