The Cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo guards the Cámara Santa, the Holy Chamber, whose relics include the Sudarium, the cloth venerated as having covered the face of Our Lord in the tomb.
An old saying holds that whoever goes to Santiago without visiting San Salvador visits the servant and neglects the Lord. Oviedo is the starting point of the oldest pilgrim road to Santiago, the Camino Primitivo.
