In 1866, eight years after the apparitions, Bernadette Soubirous left Lourdes to join the Sisters of Charity at the convent of Saint-Gildard in Nevers. She died there in 1879, aged 35.
Her body, found incorrupt when it was exhumed, rests in a glass reliquary in the convent chapel. She was canonised in 1933. Visiting Lourdes and Nevers on one pilgrimage follows her whole life.
